Sam Querrey is the eighth-ranked American tennis player. Many tennis experts have touted Querrey as America’s next great talent, including Davis Cup Captain Patrick McEnroe. Querrey stands at 6’6, 200 pounds. He has a huge serve and forehand. Querrey turned down a scholarship offer from USC to turn pro. He cracked the top 100 World Singles rankings, reaching No. 66 on April 23 of this year.
On June 11, 2006, Querrey became the first player to win a challenger event in his pro debut. He claimed tournament victories in the Yuba City and Winnetka challengers. At the US Open, Querrey defeated Philipp Kohlschreiber in straight sets before falling to Gastón Gaudio.
At the 2007 Australian Open he advanced to the third round, defeating José Acasuso, the 27th seed, in the first round and Florent Serra in the second round before falling to 7th seed Tommy Robredo in 4 sets.
